As nebulosas vdB 38 e Sh2-263, as componentes em azul e vermelho respectivamente, na imagem acima, estão brilhando graças ao poder da estrela SAO 112667.
Essa estrela, localizada perto do ombro de Orion, pode ser vista a olho nu com um céu bem escuro. Contudo, imagens de longa exposição revelam a complexa esfera de gás brilhante e filamentos de poeira que espalham a luz azulada. Essa nebulosa é muitas vezes negligenciada devido à sua proximidade com múltiplas nebulosas muito mais brilhantes e detalhadas localizadas perto do coração do Complexo Molecular de Nuvens de Orion.
A imagem acima foi feita pelo Mount Lemmon SkyCenter e necessitou de 29.5 horas de exposição usando o Telescópio Schulman de 32 polegadas para ficar pronta.
