A visão oblíqua que sempre temos da Crüger mostra que a cratera que tem 46 quilômetros de largura é preenchida quase até a borda de seu anel com lavas escuras típicas das regiões de mar da Lua. O interior escuro e as estreitas paredes brilhantes ao redor lembram a Jordi da Plato. Porém existe uma importante diferença. No caso da Plato, nós entendemos por que ela possui um interior coberto com material de mar, ela está localizada próxima da borda da Bacia Imbrium e provavelmente o magma vazou pelas fraturas abaixo da cratera e da bacia preenchendo a Plato. Mas no caso da Crüger, isso não pode ser aplicado, pois ela localiza-se nas terras altas da Lua longe da borda de qualquer bacia. A razão para esse material de mar e outros pedaços escuros próximos foi um mistério até que dados da Clementine (apresentados na imagem abaixo) mostraram que na região existe um grande afinamento da crosta da Lua e existem ali bacias escondidas, que explicam essas feições. Com a sonda LRO operando a pleno vapor ultimamente o que se pode tentar fazer é procurar nos dados de altimetria dela para ver se existem ali evidências para essa depressão ou um novo mapa de gravidade que também ajudaria a comprovar a hipótese proposta com os dados da Clementine.
